STORY

Ethiopia Washed and Natural coffees are consistently our top sellers by volume throughout the year. We believe this places Blackroad among Korea’s top roasters for Ethiopian coffee sales, thanks to our exceptionally high customer repurchase rate.

Why do so many customers regularly choose Ethiopian coffee from Blackroad?
Let’s start by understanding Ethiopia itself:

  • The birthplace of coffee
  • Persistently low labor costs
  • Unique processing methods enabled by nature

Ethiopia is the true origin of Arabica coffee. World-renowned varieties such as Geisha, SL28, Typica—and even the rarest cultivars—all trace back to Ethiopia.
Surprisingly, these varieties still grow wild in Ethiopian forests, often without distinction. This is why Ethiopian coffees are usually labeled as “Heirloom.”
Thanks to this, Ethiopian coffee offers an unrivaled quality-to-price ratio—nearly 89-point quality at an accessible price you’ll find nowhere else.

The unique affordability is also a byproduct of underdevelopment: many coffee-producing areas in Ethiopia rely on local residents harvesting wild cherries around their homes. As a result, “wild-grown” coffee is common, keeping prices low—although coffees of this quality would command ten times the price elsewhere. But expect prices to rise in coming years.

What allows Ethiopia to produce such quantities of high-scoring coffee? The natural environment: altitudes near 2,000m, a dry climate, and distinct wet/dry seasons. These ideal conditions allow coffee to dry naturally on patios—no expensive infrastructure required as in wetter regions.

At Blackroad, we don’t directly import Ethiopian beans. Instead, we meticulously select the best from over 100 Ethiopian lots already imported into Korea. This approach reduces uncertainty—since a coffee that tastes great at origin may not always do so after shipping. That’s why we almost never have failures—and if you ever don’t like your coffee, we offer a no-questions-asked refund.

Yes, selling coffee is our business—but our goal is to create value through coffee. We hope each cup brings a bright spot to your day!

Currently, Blackroad offers two carefully selected Ethiopian coffees:

  • Ethiopia Aricha Adosi Natural – Berry aroma, smooth body
  • Ethiopia Worka Nenke Washed – Clean and floral
Both boast sweet, peach-like acidity—with their own unique character. These are perfect for home, office, or café.

Note: Due to higher new crop sourcing costs, prices have increased. Finding excellent coffees at previous prices is no longer possible, so our new focus is on finding even better quality—starting with the very latest “Ushi Ushi.”
