Cupping Post began out of a love for coffee, starting in a friend’s study on the first floor of their house.
Our vague belief that selling good coffee at reasonable prices alone would bring success was shattered after only a few months.

So we poured our hearts into creating a real, self-designed café. We opened in Daegu’s hottest spot—Kim Gwang-seok Street.
But after various loans, we were left with over 100 million won in debt. For about three months, customers kept coming, but soon it became tough to make even 50,000 won in daily sales.
Still, we continued to host cuppings here with local baristas and coffee lovers.

In the end, we were scammed by a real estate agent and had to leave with almost no compensation for our business rights.
Looking back, you could say we were completely wiped out.

We moved to a much smaller place with cheaper rent. To make ends meet, my friend and I started supplying coffee and launched a YouTube channel.
Fueled by nothing but our passion for coffee, we kept going, trying new things every day and stacking up failures along the way.

From this point, we started visiting coffee origins.
Honestly, given our earnings, traveling to origins didn’t seem feasible—but we felt we had to give it a try.

That’s when a few partners who believed in us started to appear.
“We just want to get our coffee from you.”

“Once you find delicious coffee, why keep searching for new ones? Why not just drink that every day?”

This one question made us think deeply.
Cupping Post gave birth to the Black Road brand, and we began a new journey to make specialty coffee culture more accessible to everyone.

We kept experimenting at Cafe Show events—and finally, we hit the jackpot. This is when real fans started showing up.

We created a truly unique space in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, dedicated to FINE COFFEE.

And in 2024, we made history as the first in Korea to win the auction for the world’s most expensive coffee: “Aguacatillo,” priced at nearly $14,600 USD per kilogram.

Our challenge is just beginning.
